Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb chocolate cake cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups cherry compote canned or cooked fresh cherries
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 0.25 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup chocolate shavings
  • 0.25 cup cherry liqueur optional

Method
 

  1. Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  2. Optionally brush chocolate cake cubes with cherry liqueur.
  3. Layer cake cubes, cherry compote, and whipped cream in trifle bowl, repeating layers and finishing with whipped cream.
  4. Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the top.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  6. Serve in trifle bowl or individual glasses.

Notes

Assemble a day ahead for best flavor. Use fresh or frozen cherries for compote.
