Ingredients
  

  • 6 Granny Smith apples washed and dried
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.5 tsp black gel food coloring
  • 0.5 tsp purple gel food coloring optional swirl
  • 0.5 tsp silver edible shimmer dust optional

Equipment

  • Heavy saucepan
  • Candy thermometer
  • Wooden sticks
  • Parchment paper

Method
 

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly, remove wax coating, and insert wooden sticks.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium-high, stirring until dissolved. Stop stirring once dissolved.
  3. Cook until candy thermometer reads 300°F (150°C).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in black food coloring. Add purple coloring and shimmer dust for swirl effect if desired.
  5. Dip apples into candy mixture, swirl to coat, and place on greased parchment to cool.
  6. Let set for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra spooky flair, drizzle edible silver paint once hardened. Wrap in cellophane for party favors.
