Crispy Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients
  

Cheese Sticks
  • 12 mozzarella sticks
Breading
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • marinara or dipping sauce for serving

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Deep frying pan or pot
  • Tongs
  • Parchment paper

Method
 

  1. Cut block mozzarella into sticks if needed and pat dry.
  2. Set up breading station: flour in one bowl, eggs and milk in another, panko mixture in a third.
  3. Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture. Repeat egg and breadcrumb coating for double coat.
  4. Freeze breaded sticks for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry 3-4 sticks at a time for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with dipping sauce.
