Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 3-4 lb pork shoulder trimmed with some fat
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium broth beef or chicken
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp paprika optional
  • salt and pepper to taste
Optional Gravy
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch for thickening

Equipment

  • Crockpot or slow cooker
  • Large skillet
  • Tongs
  • Mixing bowl

Method
 

  1. Pat pork dry and season with salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, and paprika.
  2. Sear pork in olive oil until golden brown on all sides.
  3. Place onions and garlic at the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Add broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Set pork on top, cover, and cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 4-5 hours.
  6. Let rest 10 minutes, shred, and serve with pan juices or optional gravy.

Notes

For extra richness, add a splash of apple cider to the broth. Leftovers store well and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
