Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp almond extract optional
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
Decoration
  • rock candy crystals various colors
  • royal icing thick consistency, for adhesive
  • gel food coloring
  • edible gold luster dust mixed with clear alcohol to paint

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
  3. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder separately, then combine with wet ingredients.
  4. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out dough and cut cookie shapes.
  6. Carve a natural geode indentation in the center.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–12 minutes and cool.
  8. Apply royal icing and press in rock candy crystals.
  9. Paint edges with gold luster dust to finish.
