- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and egg.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet until soft dough forms.
- Chill dough for 1 hour if desired.
- Form 1-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar.
- Place on baking sheets 2 inches apart and bake 10–12 minutes.
- Cool 5 minutes on sheets, then transfer to wire racks.
