Hot Chocolate Base
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • tsp ground cloves
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch salt
Optional Toppings
  • whipped cream
  • mini marshmallows
  • chocolate shavings
  • gingerbread cookie

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until smooth.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir constantly until heated through but not boiling.
  3. Add molasses and vanilla extract; stir until fully incorporated.
  4. Pour hot chocolate into mugs.
  5. Top with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a gingerbread cookie if desired.
  6. Serve immediately for a warm and festive cozy drink.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a dash of espresso or sprinkle cinnamon on top. Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat gently.
