Ingredients

Cranberry Sauce Base
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries about 3 cups
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • 2–3 tsp orange zest plus more for garnish
  • ¼ tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 stick cinnamon stick optional
  • ¼ cup Grand Marnier liqueur
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Mixing spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and discard any soft or bruised berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, orange juice, sugar, and salt. Heat on medium until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add cranberries and bring the mixture to a low boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  4. Stir in cinnamon stick and orange zest. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until cranberries pop and the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in Grand Marnier until fully incorporated.
  6. Add vanilla extract if desired for additional warmth and flavor.
  7. Let sauce cool for 20–30 minutes to thicken further.
  8. Transfer to a serving dish or jar. Garnish with additional orange zest and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week in the refrigerator. For extra flavor, serve slightly warmed or add a touch of orange zest before serving.
