Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Filling
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 oz
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chocolate syrup
Coconut Pecan Frosting
  • 0.75 cup evaporated milk
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix cake ingredients until smooth and pour into the pan. Bake 28–32 minutes.
  3. Poke holes into the warm cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  4. Combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and chocolate syrup, then pour over the cake.
  5. Let cake cool and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  6. Prepare frosting by cooking evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter until thickened; stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans.
  7. Spread frosting over cooled cake and drizzle with chocolate if desired.

Notes

Chill overnight for best flavor. Add caramel drizzle for a richer taste.
