Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract.
- Alternately mix in dry ingredients and buttermilk until smooth. Pour into pan.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla, and maple syrup until soft peaks form.
- Layer maple cream over cake. Sprinkle nuts, drizzle maple syrup, and dust cinnamon/nutmeg.
- Chill 30 minutes before serving.
