- Prepare a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, orange juice, and salt in saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
- Stop stirring and attach candy thermometer.
- Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and stir in zest, butter, and orange extract.
- Pour mixture onto baking sheet and spread evenly.
- Cool slightly, then score or break into pieces.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired and store in airtight container.
Notes
For extra festive flair, add a drop of orange food coloring or wrap candies in wax paper.
