  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp orange extract optional
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. Prepare a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Combine sugar, corn syrup, orange juice, and salt in saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Stop stirring and attach candy thermometer.
  5. Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  6. Remove from heat and stir in zest, butter, and orange extract.
  7. Pour mixture onto baking sheet and spread evenly.
  8. Cool slightly, then score or break into pieces.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and store in airtight container.

Notes

For extra festive flair, add a drop of orange food coloring or wrap candies in wax paper.
