Main Ingredients
  • 2 large yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk or milk + vinegar
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • cooking oil for frying

Method
 

  1. Slice onions into thin rings and separate layers.
  2. Mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings in one bowl.
  3. Pour buttermilk into a separate bowl and breadcrumbs into another.
  4. Dip onions in flour, then buttermilk, then breadcrumbs.
  5. Fry in hot oil (350°F) for 2–3 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. Drain on paper towels and season immediately.
  7. Serve warm with dipping sauce.

Notes

For air fryer or oven options, lightly spray with oil and cook until crisp. Best enjoyed fresh.
