Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 eggs large
  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 cup orange juice fresh
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp orange juice

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients together.
  3. Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs and zest.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and liquids.
  5. Divide batter and bake 25–30 minutes.
  6. Beat frosting ingredients until smooth.
  7. Frost cooled cake layers.
