Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1.5 cups warm water 110°F/45°C
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • optional fresh herbs rosemary or thyme for topping

Method
 

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on floured surface 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Mix minced garlic with parmesan and optional herbs.
  6. Punch down dough and shape into loaf. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle garlic-parmesan mixture.
  7. Let shaped loaf rise 30–40 minutes until slightly puffy.
  8. Bake at 425°F (220°C) 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly on wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Steam in the oven helps create a crisp crust. Slice while slightly warm for best texture.
