Ingredients

Chocolate Butter Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • pinch salt
Optional Decorations
  • melted chocolate for drizzling
  • sprinkles or chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Sifter
  • Piping bag with star tip
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  3. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually mix into butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
  4. Fit a piping bag with a star or decorative tip and fill with cookie dough.
  5. Pipe cookies onto baking sheets into swirls or desired shapes, leaving space between them.
  6. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft. Cool on baking sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
  7. Optional: Drizzle melted chocolate or sprinkle decorations over cooled cookies.

Notes

Chill dough slightly if too soft for piping. Use room temperature butter for smooth creaming. Experiment with different piping tips for variety.
