  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg large
Filling
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives optional, chopped
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheese cheddar, mozzarella, or mix
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Loaf pan or baking sheet
  • Rolling pin
  • Oven

Method

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk, let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.

  4. Mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, chives, and dried herbs for filling.
  5. Roll dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread garlic herb butter evenly and sprinkle shredded cheese.
  6. Roll dough into a log, cut lengthwise into two halves, twist together to form swirled loaf.
  7. Place loaf in greased pan, cover, and let rise 30–45 minutes.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Optional: sprinkle extra cheese for last 5 minutes.
  9. Cool slightly, slice, and serve warm. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
