Method
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk, let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
- Mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, chives, and dried herbs for filling.
- Roll dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread garlic herb butter evenly and sprinkle shredded cheese.
- Roll dough into a log, cut lengthwise into two halves, twist together to form swirled loaf.
- Place loaf in greased pan, cover, and let rise 30–45 minutes.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Optional: sprinkle extra cheese for last 5 minutes.
- Cool slightly, slice, and serve warm. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
