Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk optional
  • red and pink sanding sugar for decorating

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until dough forms. Add milk if needed.
  4. Shape dough into a 2-inch diameter log. Wrap and refrigerate 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment.
  6. Slice dough into ½-inch rounds. Place on sheet, sprinkle sugar.
  7. Bake 10–12 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on wire rack.

Notes

Freeze dough logs for baking later. Slice and bake straight from freezer for fresh cookies anytime.
